Here are the highlights of May 2009.

Grandpa Jim's Birthday



The Zoo
We went to the zoo with Ella Claire and her Mommy. It was a perfect day and luckily not too crowded. We were able to zip through in about 2 hours. Just long enough to see the animals and then head to get a burger!
We only took pictures of the giraffe because they were his favorite. (Mine, too.)

First Baseball Game

This was Luke's first MLB game. We went with Aunt Donna, Uncle Mark, Haley, Will and Grandma. Luke LOVED the game and would say, "Swing!" as the batter came to the plate. Of course, the music was a hit (no pun intended) with him, too. It was a super hot day so Daddy and Aunt Donna took the kids on a walk around the park and to the 'kids' section. I think there was an ice cream stop, as well. It was a great experience for him because every time we pass the stadium now he says, "We went dAre with Haley and Will." (I guess the rest of us don't count! HA!)

As we say, "Bye to May"...Luke says, "I want to go to work just like Daddy!"

I didn't post most May because my computer crashed and I lost all pictures from that month. Luckily, these were left on my camera.

3D Sonogram of Baby Girl

About a week and a half ago, I received a very surprising text from my good friend, Amber (above center). She and her husband were at an auction and bought our baby gift...a 3D Sonogram package. How cool is that?
After a few days of looking into the company's franchises, we found out that you have to use the gift certificate at the facility in her town. Can you say, "Road trip?" David took the day off and we drove to have the ultrasound. Unfortunately, Amber was busy at work and couldn't make it to the appointment. Maybe she can be at the one in July!! Thanks again, guys! You are truly a blessing to us! What a gift to be able to 'meet' baby girl before she arrives! She's beautiful and looks alot like Luke. Oh...and the sonographer reassured us that she's a girl and no cleft lip! Thank you, Lord!

(The 'Lucy Ricardo burnt nose' in some of the pictures is from the closeness of the camera. Apparently, she was 'scrunching' her face up against me so the camera lost the tip of her nose...)

Bite Me

You heard it right...
Tonight, when we were putting Luke to bed he wanted to read one of his favorite animal books. He loves the page with the shark on it. That's about the only page he wants to look at. David asked him, "What would be a good name for your shark?" He said......you guessed it...."Bite me!"

Music Identification

It's no surprise to most close to us that Luke is very verbal. A few have actually commented that he should be a linguist one day! Nice...I'd hate for him to talk to (about) me in another language! HA! Most people know that he LOVES music, too! He is actually singing along to songs now and will just spontaneously sing wherever we are...even belting out Jesus Loves Me in Wal-Mart. It makes me smile to see others reactions when he does this.
Because he is so strong in language and music, he is picking up on songs written in different languages. I cannot tell you how many times we have heard 'DeColores' and 'Frere Jacques' in the past few days. He wants to hear 'the Spanish one' or 'the French one' over and over. He now knows the words. He has no idea what he's singing, but he can sing it.
Today, he was listening to Frere Jacques and was naming the instruments as he heard them. The version we have is by Raffi and starts out slow with a two note piano...he'd say, 'piano'...then, 'violin',....then 'chello'...then 'bells'. After that part, Raffi starts singing. He was right on with every instrument. The song was on repeat and needlesstosay his naming game started over. This time around I cracked up because he said, 'piano, violin, chello, bells, man'. Then he laughed at himself and said, 'No...a man is not an instrument!'
I disagree because MY little man is an instrument of laughter in this household for sure!! I cannot thank the Lord more for blessing us with him! He is a joy...a mess, but a joy, for sure!

Lukisms continued...

1. Donna kept Luke last week while I went to my a few doctor appointments. Later, the kids were playing in the living room. Luke brought 2 different Mater's (from the movie Cars) to me. He looked at the 'dirty' Mater and said, 'Look Mommy, dirty Mater's teeth are all 'jacked up''. I have NO idea where he learned that term! *wink wink*

2.We were at the mall the other day and Uncle Mark was watching the kids run and play near the planters while Donna and I shopped. Luke decided to venture into the Origins store. Unfortunately, he chose the wrong door and smacked right into the glass wall. (They must keep them pretty clean.) Mark said that he just bounced right off like a bird hitting the window. (Birds don't hit my dirty windows so I don't really know what that is like.) The result was a huge goose egg on his forehead. The next day I said, 'Let me move your hair out of the way and see your head'. He then proceeded to say, 'It's all jacked up, Mom!' I couldn't quit laughing!!

3. While we were at Donna's, she gave me a LOAD of clothes for Baby Girl...hand me downs from Haley. Anyway, in one of the bags was a teeny tiny pair of Ked's tennis shoes. Later the next day, Luke pulled them out of the bag and said in a high pitched voice, "Mommy, looked at these 'iddy-biddy' shoes for baby sister! We can put them on her when she comes out!"

Eating breakfast before church this morning:

Luke: Mommy, where's Haley and Will? (his cousins)
Mom: They are in Atlanta.
Luke: Where's Mrs. Atlanta?
Mom: No...Atlanta the city.
Luke: Who did they go see? (We've been telling him all weekend.)
Mom: Granny Mae. She just turned 100 years old.
Luke: Oooooooo....SHE'S BIG! (Said with a very animated, deep voice.)

Riding home in the car on the way home from church (this is the first time that he's answered the questions correctly):

Mom: What did you learn today in Sunday School?
Luke: God
Mom: Did you learn about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? (I was reading about their lesson on a Parent Take Home Sheet that they hand out as you pick up your child.)
Luke: uh huh...they were in the fire.
Mom: VERY GOOD! They were. Did you learn that 'God was in charge of...' (paused to see if he'd finish.)
Luke: Everything.
Mom: Yes, everything...even the fire. God protected them and kept them safe. Who did He send in to the fire to protect them?
Luke: Angel
Mom: That's right! So, who is in charge of the fire?
Luke: God.
Mom: Right. Who is in charge of Luke?
Luke: God.
Mom: Yep, and God gave you to Mommy and Daddy to take care of you so we are in charge of you, too. Who is in charge of Mommy and Daddy?
Luke: Gramma
Mom and Dad: (laughing) Yes, she is too, but God is in charge of everything, so he's in charge of us AND Gramma!

Note: Mom LOVED this! Wonder why?
